FlowLocal
Start with the spoken thought.
Sometimes the first useful version of an idea is spoken. FlowLocal is the local dictation work in our internal toolset, concerned with getting that thought into text before the next stage of the workflow.
- InternalProject status
Part of our internal work, with no public product release.
- Local dictationProject scope
Speech as an input to everyday work.
- SpeechA spoken thought is the intended starting point.
- DictationThe project's scope is local speech-to-text work.
- TextThe intended result is written input for a later workflow.
The problem
Speaking a thought and organizing it into a brief are separate jobs. Local dictation concerns the first step: getting the words into a form that can be used again.
Who it’s for
We keep this work focused on internal use, for people who want speech to be a practical input alongside typed notes.
What we built
We include FlowLocal in our internal toolset as local dictation work. It remains an internal project, with no public product release.
How it works
The intended workflow begins with speech and produces text for subsequent use. Structuring an existing transcript into an operational brief is separate work, represented by Opsignal Desk.
What was hard
Recognition quality, latency and platform support determine whether dictation becomes useful in a working day. Those are the questions around this internal work; we have no published performance results to present.
